Spirits in the Night

Published October 30, 2013 by Kathleen's Writings & Art

There’s a story on the island

of spirits in the night,

a special place where they go to dance

on the sand in the midnight moonlight.

You can hear them singing

and laughing

as they hide in the fog,

they play hide-n-seek and

ride the surf’s roll.

You won’t see their faces—

but they see your soul,

they watch you and hear you

as the island winds blow.

Their seaweed hair wet,

limbs swaying in the mist,

the moonlight gone,

as the sand turns cold,

they return each night,

it’s their favorite place,

well—that’s what I’m told.

No Words

He doesn’t notice me anymore;
My hair could be colored blonde or black,
He says no words;
My hair could be long one day and short the next,
He says no words;
I could be wearing a lot of make-up or none at all,
A fancy outfit appropriate for a ball,
Or my pj’s for two days,
There is no word.
I could paint the Pristine Chapel, and get a “nice”,
Write a poem about love and life,
I could bake him his favorite apple pie,
Clean the house as if to entertain Christ,
He says no words;
He doesn’t notice me anymore!

My Dreams

Published October 22, 2013 by Kathleen's Writings & Art

thanksgiving after

My dreams arrived true
Of me and you,
Aged fine, and rich of joy,
Love for each other with more to deploy.
Evenings spent cooking, laughter, dancing
And sips of wine,
Eyes sparkling with love divine.
Sitting on the porch and staring at the stars,
A warm summer wind coming from afar,
Fireflies dance and we watch their show,
Shadows dancing in moonlight aglow.
We turn out the lights, and head to our room,
To rest and kiss with morning arriving soon,
Peaceful sleeping and wrapped in your arms,
Dazzled and delighted by only your charms;
You are my soul mate,
My dreams arrived true.

Autumn Play

Laughing children on a sunny day,

barns stacked full with fresh baled hay,

riped apples on trees in a row,

autumn leaves scattered on the ground below.

Children play in flowered fields,

grazing horses dot the rolling hills,

night is nigh with star splashed sky,

and night will dance with fireflies.

A Child’s Play

We should all remember to play as children!!

I watch you play upon the stairs,

Lost in your childhood games,

Built by your imagination,

With freedom and no restraint.

Today you are a sailor,

The captain of your ship,

Sailing on the ocean sea,

Procuring a long summer trip.

You sing a song

That you have loved,

Words of an old lullaby,

You sing a song on the stairs today,

Singing loud—you’re not shy.

The stairs are now a jungle,

A land that you explore,

With a monkey and a zebra,

A tiger and a vicious wild boar.

You pretend you’re on a skyscraper

High up in the sky,

Playing like you’re really there,

And wishing you could fly.

Once again, you’re hungry,

Therefore, you stop and eat your lunch,

You’ll be a chef in your own shop,

There’s not much time to stop.

The stairs are now a cherry tree

In your own loved backyard,

With grass…

Love’s Attire

Clothe me in your body’s gown,

Raise my spirit to heaven’s crown,

Through the years of solitude,

I watched the seasons change their moods.

High in the leaves of the old oak tree,

A blue bird sings a cheerful reveille.

My restless spirit fills the air,

The mountain’s presence everywhere,

I lift my hands wearing nature’s somber dress,

Dancing in the moonlight’s painted loveliness.

There is no pain or tears tonight,

As I lay in peaceful sleep once more,

Beneath the sky’s restful spell foretold,

And wait the sun’s waking rise,

And by her side is morning’s fire,

I will clothe you in my love’s attire.

Angels in the Winds

For my very dear friend who needs this poem right now!! Love to you!!

Angels in the winds

High above the waters

In a land not forsaken

By God’s own gracious hand.

I count the glowing windows

As I pass them in the night

Rows of little beacons

Showing me there is life.

Moments of comfort,

I am at peace

In the silence of the darkness

As angels watch over me.

A Forlorn Song

Published October 4, 2013 by Kathleen's Writings & Art

She sits alone,

Her skeleton

Pressed, molded,

Wrought by an empty heart.

She sings

A forlorn song,

Purse empty,

Neighbors drift afar,

Afraid to be there,

They point and stare,

Material junk

Seals their hearts.

She wears

A heart heaving

With aches and prayers,

A binding truth and love

She strives to share

But others’ fear

Converts to glare,

And not one steps near.
