One Note at a Time

On a warm spring breeze,
Birds chirp their greeting song,
Children play kick ball
On the green grassy knoll,
People laugh while embarking
on their Sunday afternoon stroll,
Tulips peak out from their flowerbeds and,
City lights sparkle in the night;
He strums the strings of her heart,
One small note at a time –
Erasing sadness encased,
Breaching a hedge of grief
Whereupon drapes her heart;

When he passes by her window
Waving to her one more time,
She aims to shed not one more tear,
And tries to wear an unending smile;
Yet, while the world sleeps
And she is on her own,
No use pretending,
She’s far away from home,
Far from the solace of his arms;

Lonesomeness consumes her heart,
Desiring to hold him one more time,
The tenderness of his gracious love and words;

He strums the strings of her heart,
One small note at a time –

City lights sparkle in the night.

Where Did You Go?

Published December 6, 2015 by Kathleen's Writings & Art

When the night is dark,

And the moon is absent from the sky,

And a choir of crickets sings their own lullaby,

Where do you go?

When my arms remain empty

And the wind gently whispers my name,

And I gaze upon the stars,

Where do you go?

When my heart aches to feel your breath

And the warmth of your soul,

And the silence is heavy,

Where do you go?

When I’m no longer here

To feel completely alone;

Where did you go?

Word for the day

The night is nigh with parting day,

Winds blow slowly over land,

As I stroll homeward on my familiar way,

The sunset dips behind any man-

Far from the maddening crowds and stressful life,

The pleasing anxious night is nigh,

Leaving arms of warmth this blissful day,

A kindred spirit shall be my mate,

Let me see him at daylight’s break,

And while the sun sets on my lawn,

And as the creek rushes near my stance,

His love will erase all my fear,

Gentle hands will stroke my hair,

Heart of strength presses me near-

The more he gave, the less I spoke,

A slumberous sound and loving dreams,

I welcome night and the silent breeze,

The night is nigh, and I am pleased.

Angels

Angels in the winds

High above the waters

In a land not forsaken

By God’s own gracious hand.

I count the glowing windows

As I pass them in the night

Rows of little beacons

Showing me there is life.

Moments of comfort,

I am at peace

In the silence of the darkness

As angels watch over me.

Masks

It covers your soul as darkness draping over the sunlight,

Your Spirit seeking the world with penetrating eyes,

An undisputable wave, a persuaded glance,

A vanity inside abides,

Fragmented consumed exhibits –

You build –

Pieces as shattered glass,

Dusted with suffering in prolonged time,

Whirling with frenzy, becoming a dance

With mere thoughts of an empty heart-

Longing an eternity of dual hearts;

You guard your soul knowing your mask

Stands alone and fragile, seeking strength and fortitude,

Posing evolved and amassed, yet with little understanding;

Statutes unfair do never-rest, and never ends,

Leading only to bareness – far and wide;

A prisoner kept inside your encased wearied mask.

Do not accede to life’s ragged hand slaying your treasure,

Disrobe the mask you wear and sanction-

Your love and tranquility in a time to come;

Allow your soul to breathe unleashed –

Across the Times

There was a king adorned with jewels,

Young and handsome, an age of merely thirteen;

He walked the garden yards

And singled out red rose’s blooms,

Not the yellow, pink or white,

Only red roses, and only the blooms;

He played with trick kites, flying helicopters, and

Wooden blocks—building castles, islands, and towers in the sky;

He rode his bike, steering the wheels, staying in the boundaries,

Every day, up and down, up and down the pebbled paths

And slightly rolling hills;

Tick tock, tick tock goes the clock,

But for him—he kept no time;

Sitting quiet, sitting still, he reads his verse,

One line, the next line, one line at a time,

And with the final word read, he wonders a great deal—

About being born, about how to live,

And death that comes across the times;

An elegant sunset, and changing of the light,

He runs across the lawn for his telescope,

And maybe, just maybe, he might eat a little cantaloupe;

Feet in flight, and much to his delight,

A wish to greet the evening stars came true,

He gazes into the nighttime sky,

He does not even question as to why—

Whoosh—his day did disappear,

And time did fly.

My Garden

I feel the need
to grow something living;
I chose tomatoes, green beans,
parsley and dill,
three types of peppers,
basil, onions, and
two types of squash,
and a bunch of kale.
I bought the best dirt,
and bright colored windsocks,
and hung from the trees
many wind chimes for me.
I love the sounds of all the birds
singing though-out the day,
but I hope to keep them from feasting
on my soon ripening treats.
Watching them grow
brings me great joy,
I am keeping my fingers crossed
that they don’t die,
due to birds, pests,
or dried up soil;
Wish me luck!!

Your Song

I pray you find

The peace of heaven

While angels dance and sing

Your song; I hope you look

Upon the blue skies

While clouds with

Cotton candy depths

Drift slowly on home;

I wish you all the happiness

That abides forever within

The ever swiftly moving waters,

Where hopes and new dreams

Abide in all men.

Capture of a Moment

The capture of a moment,

A song that is sung,

Words dancing across the page,

Began when I was still young.

In my heart of memories

There is a special revise,

Seizing steely rains

Rippling through dark and

Forging angry skies-

Issuing me a process

To thrust Heaven’s gate wide,

Escorting in the sunshine

To the chambers of my mind,

Allowing me to capture words,

At times along with goodbyes,

And yet, stringing them together,

Fashioned and designed,

Freeing them to dance,

For moments at a time.

For Only Tonight

For only tonight

Let me hold you near,

Kiss your eyelids,

Erase your fears.

For only tonight

Let me feel your arms

Holding me tight

Engaged in your charms.

For only tonight

Let my dreams come true,

Our lips will touch,

Our souls will too.

For only tonight,

Let our flesh be one

Immersed in our passion

Till morning’s sun.

For only tonight

Exist completely mine,

Bodies entwined

Adrift in time.

Walking My Way

I saw him through the sunlight

Walking my way,

I prayed he would stop

And say, ”Good-day”.

He did just that-

And my throat froze up,

I tried to speak,

But nothing came out.

He smiled at me,

While we stood still,

The wind brushed his hair,

While, I tried not to stare.

His words came out softly,

I could hardly hear, because

My heart pounded so loudly

While he stood very near.

I smiled at him and nodded,

And he did the same-

As he turned and walked away,

Man, what a shame!

Captured Heart

My heart is captured

By new hopes- with dreams

Wished upon the falling stars;

I embrace them near,

With anticipation,

With promise –

They arise true;

Holding them tight,

Not letting them steal away,

Not allowing disappointment

Or sorrow;

With a open heart –

I search the sunbeams,

And moon shadows,

I cling to my dreams.

Journey

Commence our journey

With our childhood dreams,

Short-lived, all too soon set free,

Drifting on wind’s breath,

Loosely held,

Slightly possessed,

Once in wit’s play,

Once determined to embark – yet,

Eventually, slowly

One by one, we let them go.

But, with reflection

Our journey’s travel

Will later discover

Childhood dreams emerging forth,

Uncovered, found, laid bare,

Not forgotten, in wit’s play,

Our journey, ourchildhood dreams

To embark.

He waits for her coming

with the morning’s first light,

sunlight orchestrated with the

sounds of heaven wakening

dark corners.

His thoughts linger lovingly

with visions of mid-day encounters,

as the breeze plays,

gently brushing the willow tree’s branches.

An Old Woman

Beneath the shade of an old oak tree,

there sat an old woman

completely free,

humming and singing

an unfamiliar song,

with sounds so sweet

and words not long.

Her white sun-kissed hair

blowing like a running mare

on the tails of the wind,

and her tan leathery skin,

draped with a dress

vibrant in colors

and apparently unpressed.

A spell she cast on me

as I sat near,

how lovely, how serene,

with smells of sweet flowers

awakening in the spring.

A warmth filled my soul

as I closed my eyes,

how peaceful was the

never-ending blue sky.

I could stay there for hours,

no time was addressed,

I had no where to be

and,

I needed the rest.

Colors

Look deep within me, where colors rest;

Silent loveliness of maiden white tulips,

Yellow velvet roses glide across my memories,

The blue bird sings a blissful tune,

Young desires of games in adventure still plainspoken,

Red wild flames persist to cultivate my longings,

Faith’s triumphs brought unsullied tomorrows,

I carry the warmth of a seasoned heart,

A teller of new courage, my muse, my poet;

I gaze transversely the valley green,

What need is there for such expression

When eyes behold God’s finest daybreak?

Blue and crimson sky alongside morning’s dew drops,

Raises her golden arms to earth’s realms,

Her brown earthy incense filling my nostrils,

Leaves on trees beholding shades of green,

Gilded silence of the glistening snow-covered mountain peaks,

Turquoise lakes sparkling in tranquility,

Colors deep within me…

Life’s Blowing Wind

Published June 17, 2013 by Kathleen's Writings & Art

The wind of life blows through me,

At times- it whispers,

At times- it wails;

Allow my soul to be a reed,

And sing a song that never fails,

Wordless singing is clearly true,

Either wailing wind

Or skies of blue;

Give me joyous musings,

If you please,

While in the distant church bells ring,

Birds dispersing magnolia seeds

Along tree- covered silent streets;

And, as sunset wraps herself in dress of gold,

Emotions fade like falling stars,

Streaming past heavens wide and far,

Swiftly subtracting wounding words,

Allow my soul to sing a song.
